While Ilana stayed at the dining table working on advertisements, Fon and Ayla headed to the greenhouse to work on the vegetable and fruit plants that were starting to come in. They noticed the overhead lights were already on and were happy to see Nala working in the garden. They gave her space and warm smiles and allowed her to continue working in silence as they headed to another section.
Ava was sitting on a blanket near Nala playing with toys while Chandu napped beside her.
Ayla loved gardening and digging into rich soil. Glad to be away from the earlier conversation, she let the recent worries and stress escape her and softly hummed as she weeded and cared for the new plants for well over two hours.
Her humming inspired Fon. "I love listening to you. You remind me of a hummingbird. Hey, that's a perfect nickname for you, Hummingbird."
Ayla laughed and resumed her gentle songs and gardening.
Fon, like all the family, loved Ayla's energy and consistently positive nature. She was truly a gentle soul. Nala eventually walked over to her and asked, "Would you mind taking care of Ava for a while? I'd like to have a bath and relax."
"Sure. I'd love to."
"Thank you, I really need some alone time." Nala looked as weary as she felt as she headed back into the main living area.
Behind her, Fon and Ayla, who had been concerned about Nala's meltdown, were happy she was still speaking to them. They worked a little while longer in the garden and then took Ava inside for a snack. When she was finished, Ayla took her to the barn to play with the goats.
Ava loved the goats. They and all of the animals were gentle with her. The two stallions, especially, behaved differently when she was around, never moving if they could not see where she was standing and acting as if they made one wrong move, she would break.
The animals had been released from their stalls earlier by London, and were roaming around the barn area. As usual, the goats were looking for mischief and Ava laughed as she watched them hop around and play. Her favorite, Twinklebell, who always came to her for kisses and loved being petted, was her shadow each time she visited the barn.
